Soubam Ibopishak Singh

Soubam Ibopishak Singh, Chairperson is an alumnus of Sainik School, Imphal. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from the erstwhile Maulana Azad College of Technology, Bhopal, now Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal, and also holds a Master of Business Administration in Project Management from Sikkim Manipal University. He also completed Harvard Manage Mentor course.

Over an illustrious career, Shri Singh served in leading organisations including Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), and Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID). He served in POWERGRID for 34 years (since 1991) and held various responsibilities across the North-Eastern States, including Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya. During his tenure in Manipur, key transmission projects were completed, including the 400 KV Silchar–Imphal line, contributing to improve reliability and availability of power in the State. He also contributed significantly to the implementation of the North Eastern Power System. Improvement Project in Manipur and Tripura. Several challenging projects—such as the 132/33 KV Tamenglong Sub-station, Rengpang–Tamenglong line, 132/33 KV Gamphazol sub-station, along with other 33 KV sub-stations and lines—were completed to strengthen the transmission and sub-transmission system in the State. During his last posting at Guwahati, Assam, he oversaw implementation of the NERPSIPProject across six North-Eastern States.

Shri S.I. Singh retired as Chief General Manager, POWERGRID on 31st December, 2025 and subsequently joined MnERC as Chairperson with effect from 2nd January 2026.
