The Manipur Electricity Regulatory Commission (MnERC) is a Corporate body, constituted by the State Government of Manipur which was established on 23rd July, 2024 through a Notification vide No. JERC/1/2022-POW-PD-Part (1) dated 22.07.2024.
MnERC is a regulatory body with its main function of determination of electricity tariff, regulation of purchase & procurement process of power, fecilitate Intra – State transmission & wheeling of electricity, issuing of licenses to transmission and distribution entities, promote cogeneration and generation of electricity from renewable resources, adjudicate upon the disputes between licensees and generating companies for generation of electricity and to advise State Government in making policies, promote competition, efficiency and economy in Electrical industries etc.

The Manipur Electricity Regulatory Commission (MnERC) was established as an independent commission by the Government of Manipur with effect from 23 July 2024, as notified in the Manipur Government Gazette.
Before its independent establishment, electricity regulation for Manipur was carried out by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for Manipur and Mizoram, which was constituted by the Central Government under the Electricity Act, 2003.
